Dozens of northerners have been recognized in recent weeks with a special one-off medal designed to reward people who make a “significant contribution” to a particular part of Canada.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal – commemorating the 2023 coronation of Canada’s monarch – is being awarded to a total of 30,000 people across the country, including 4,000 members of the armed forces.
Provinces, territories, MPs and a broad range of other organizations all had the ability to nominate people for the medal.
An exhaustive list of every Northwest Territories resident to receive a medal is not readily available. However, we have acquired lists from the offices of Premier RJ Simpson, Commissioner Gerry Kisoun, Senator Margaret Dawn Anderson and NWT MP Michael McLeod.
Many of the recipients received their medals at a ceremony inside the NWT Legislative Assembly last week.
If you know of an NWT resident who received the medal through another organization and is not listed below, tell us and we’ll confirm it then add them to the list.
This is the list we have compiled so far. Medal recipients’ names are as they were provided to us by the nominating office, and recipients are listed in the order provided to us.
