RCMP say there were no injuries reported and no signs of criminality in a fire that broke out at the Sunridge Apartments in Yellowknife on Thursday.
The apartment complex on 51A Avenue, also known as Sunridge Place, is listed by owner Northview Residential REIT as a 25-unit building.
A statement from the City of Yellowknife said that the fire had been contained to a single unit on the first floor of the three-story building.
The fire was reported to police at 2:31pm on Thursday. The City of Yellowknife Fire Division quickly entered the unit to extinguish the fire and remained on scene for approximately three hours, the City said.
The building is “not habitable for any occupants,” according to the statement provided by the City.
“Northview and Yellowknife Housing Authority are coordinating efforts to ensure the well-being of any displaced tenants,” read the statement.
Northview has been approached for comment.
The statement from the City said that the cause of the fire is under investigation by the YKFD and the Office of the Fire Marshal.
