A warrant has been ordered for a man alleged to have crashed into a mother and daughter on their way to school while fleeing RCMP in Hay River in January.
Jacob Moore was scheduled to enter a plea in a Hay River courtroom on Monday morning but did not make an appearance.
Judge Robert Gorin proceeded to issue a non-endorsed warrant for his arrest, meaning that if arrested, Moore would have to appear before a justice of the peace before being released.
Moore is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and flight from a peace officer.
He has no prior convictions.
It is not yet clear why RCMP pursued the vehicle allegedly driven by Moore through a residential neighbourhood of Hay River’s Old Town on a weekday morning.
Police say the incident remains “under review.”
RCMP previously stated it is their policy not to initiate or continue a vehicle pursuit unless officers believe a suspect has committed or is about to commit a serious act of violence against another person, and “only if failing to immediately arrest the suspect would pose a greater risk to public safety than a pursuit.”
In the weeks following the incident, Nicolinea Minakis – whose truck was rendered a write-off by the collision – said she experienced regular severe headaches and neck pain as a result of the crash.
