RCMP in Fort Good Hope say they have charged a woman after seizing suspected crack-cocaine at the community’s airport last week.
In a news release, RCMP said they received information on April 20 that a woman was arriving to the community by plane and may have contraband alcohol.
Fort Good Hope has restrictions on the amount of alcohol allowed within 25km of the community in any 24-hour period.
Police said they met the suspect at the community airport. After they “developed further grounds to believe she was in possession of illegal drugs,” RCMP said officers arrested and searched the woman leading to the seizure of approximately 261 grams of suspected crack cocaine.
RCMP said they did not locate any contraband alcohol.

Police have charged Marie Erutse, 33, with possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on the charge on June 2 in Fort Good Hope.
“Fort Good Hope detachment would like to thank the community and local government for their partnership and support in combating the illicit drug trade in the community,” RCMP stated.
Indigenous leaders across the NWT have raised increasing concerns about the impact of illicit drugs on their communities.
Leaders from the Sahtu region met in Fort Good Hope this week to discuss the issue.
Addiction and violence related to the illicit drug trade were also topics of focus during a meeting of Dehcho leaders in Yellowknife this week.
