Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for communities in the Sahtu and Beaufort Delta and a winter storm warning for the Tłı̨chǫ region.
Yellowknife, meanwhile, is told to expect freezing rain from midnight until later on Saturday morning, with conditions particularly poor on Highway 3 outside the city.
The federal agency said Norman Wells, Tulita, Fort Good Hope and Délı̨nę can expect between 10 and 25 cm of snow on Saturday.
“Snow will begin late tonight and intensify Saturday morning,” an advisory on Friday afternoon stated.
“There is also a slight chance of freezing rain late tonight and early Saturday morning. Snow will taper off late Saturday night.”
Meanwhile, between 10 and 20 cm of snow is forecast for the southern end of the Mackenzie Delta, including Fort McPherson and Tsiigehtchic.
Again, snow in that region is expected to start on Friday evening and last until Saturday night.
In the Tłı̨chǫ region, Environment Canada said freezing rain is expected on Friday night and into Saturday morning for Whatĩ and Behchokǫ̀ as well as stretches of Highway 3.
Farther north, heavy snow could mean up to 20 cm falls on Gamètì by Sunday morning.
The weekend forecast is extremely different elsewhere in the NWT. Fort Smith, for example, has a Saturday forecast high of 20C.
