Cabin Radio’s journalists and broadcasters are shortlisted for national recognition in four categories at the 2025 Digital Publishing Awards in Toronto.
Two of Canada’s nine finalists for Best News Coverage from a community publication are from the Cabin Radio newsroom.
Simona Rosenfield is shortlisted for her reporting on Yellowknife’s Garden Townhomes fire and its lasting impact on tenants. Jimmy Thomson is shortlisted for his examination of the decision-making that drove the NWT’s wildland firefighters in 2023.
In the Best Lifestyle Storytelling category, Aastha Sethi is a finalist for her report on 14 cousins returning to the North to discover their ancestral roots.
Lastly, Cabin Talks – Cabin Radio’s northern news and current affairs podcast – is one of seven finalists for Best Podcast alongside two entries from the CBC and submissions from Savoir Média, The Big Story, The Narwhal, The Global Reporting Centre and The Conversation.
The Cabin Talks submission includes Simona Rosenfield’s episode with Trent Stokes examining gardening as a mental health tool in Fort Smith, plus a Clams ‘n’ Moose episode dedicated to the history of women’s hockey in Yellowknife.
Winners will be named at a ceremony on June 13 at Toronto’s Arcadian Court.
Cabin Radio’s Emily Blake is separately a finalist in the Online Media category at the Canadian Association of Journalists’ annual awards in Calgary at the end of May.
