The NWT’s wildfire agency appealed for information about the “cause or persons of interest” after a fire on the edge of Fort Smith triggered an evacuation alert last weekend.
In a Friday Facebook post, NWT Fire said officers in the town are now investigating the cause of that fire, which began near Primrose Lane and Carl’s Drive on Saturday afternoon.
The cause listed on NWT Fire’s website is: “Human Caused, Camp Fire Abandoned.”
“Officers are calling on members of the public to share any relevant information which may assist in identifying evidence of cause or persons of interest,” the agency stated.
Anyone with information is asked to call 867-872-6426.
Meanwhile, the broader territorial Department of Environment and Climate Change issued a separate appeal over vandalism to its vehicles in the Dehcho.
ECC said two vehicles were vandalized some time between Friday last week and Tuesday this week at the Fort Liard river crossing parking lot.
“Damage included flattened tires, a smashed windshield, and tampering with the lights and fuel systems,” the department stated.
“If you noticed anything unusual – or even just saw the vehicles undamaged during that time – it could help narrow down when the incident occurred.”
If you can help, ECC asked that you contact RCMP at 867-695-1111.
