Charles Nitsiza has defeated incumbent Alfonz Nitsiza to become the new Chief of Whatì while Doreen Arrowmaker was re-elected in Gamètì.
Of the eligible 402 voters in Whatì, 191 took part in Monday’s vote. Charles Nitsiza won by a margin of 105 votes to 86.
The elected councillors in Whatì are Walter Beaverho, Kerry-Ann Franki, Charlie Jeremick’ca, Michel Moosenose, George Nitsiza, Lisa Nitsiza, Tina Nitsiza, and Sonny Zoe.
In Wekweètì, Chief Adeline Football had already been acclaimed to a second term unopposed.
Arrowmaker, challenged by David Wedawin, secured a second four-year term in Gamètì.
“I want to say thank you to each and every one of you that voted for me. From the very bottom of my heart, I really appreciate the support that I received from this community,” Arrowmaker said in her victory speech.
“The last four years, you know how hard we’ve worked to improve our community, to bring people back together and being unified as one community.
“Going forward, I will continue to work hard for each and every one of you. I will try my very best.”
