Yellowknife’s only music store, Fiddles & Stix, will close later this year as the owner retires.
Over the years sales have slowed, Jim White said on Friday. He told Cabin Radio he had received an offer on the building and so had decided to retire and close the shop.
“Things have declined a little bit over the last few years, but it’s at this point now, both my sons are done high school, at university, so it’s the way things are,” he said.
“We got an offer on the building as well, so it just seemed about the right time.”
White credited the closing of the store to a combination of low sales and his want to retire. A precise closing date has yet to be determined.

He said the store will have some “good deals” before shutting down in the coming months. Starting on July 8, all items in-store will be 10-percent off, and the deals will get better as the closing date nears.
“It’s bittersweet, you know. It’s been great having a music store,” he said.
White said he would like to thank “all the people that supported us over the years,” adding: “It’s hard to believe 31 years has gone by that fast.”
