RCMP report one death in helicopter crash near Behchokǫ̀

RCMP say one person has died following a helicopter crash near Behchokǫ̀.

Police said in a press release that officers were notified around noon on Monday that an aircraft had crashed approximately 1.5km from Highway 3 near the community.

RCMP said the pilot, who they did not name, was the lone passenger in the helicopter.

Officers administered CPR to the pilot who later died from his injuries.

“Our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim,” RCMP stated.

NWT Fire told Cabin Radio the crash is not related to any wildfire response efforts.

Canada’s Transportation Safety Board said the helicopter was registered to Great Slave Helicopters. The board is currently gathering information about the incident.
