The City of Yellowknife is shutting down part of 50 Avenue, the city’s main street, from June 26 until the end of August while a pipe is replaced.
In a Friday news release, the city said the work – between 45 Street and a lift station under construction near School Draw Avenue – will run from 7am until 7pm daily, possibly extending to 11pm on same days.
The work will replace a sewage force main.

“The project will require phased closures along 50 Avenue and will result in temporary traffic, transit, and active transportation detours,” the city stated.
More details and detour maps are available on the city’s website.
“This work, while temporary in nature, represents a long-term investment in the health and resilience of the community and will help ensure essential services remain reliable for years to come,” the city stated.
“The public is encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted traffic control signage and directions from on-site traffic control personnel.”
