Crews are responding to a small wildfire triggered by “a structure fire on the west end of Grace Lake,” NWT Fire says.
Residents reported smoke toward the south end of Yellowknife shortly before 5pm, followed by aircraft heading to the scene.
NWT Fire said the structure had been demolished and a crew with a helicopter and air tankers was tackling the wildfire.
“Ground crews are moving in to mop up the area. The fire was last assessed at 0.2 hectares and there are no other structures at risk,” the territory’s wildfire agency stated.
The structure in question was not immediately clear, though one resident with knowledge of the area described it as an “improvised wooden home or cabin.”
The coordinates listed on NWT Fire’s website show a location some distance from the homes that line the east end of Grace Lake.
The wildfire has the designation ZF003.
