Ribfest is coming back to Yellowknife, bringing a weekend of ribs, pulled pork and other BBQ favourites.
Running August 1-3 in the multiplex parking lot, organizers say the festival will feature three food trucks – Billy Bones BBQ, Blazin’ BBQ and Buckeye BBQ – alongside a fry truck and lemonade truck.
Each truck uses different sauces but most have similar menus, serving ribs, pulled pork, sausages and chicken.
The festival will feature live music on Friday evening and throughout the weekend, as well as a bouncy castle for mini rib-lovers. For the full lineup and menu, visit Ribfest’s Facebook page.
Organizer Kelsi McInnes said her favourite aspect of the event – a part of the Western Canada Ribfest Tour, which runs through various communities – is “how it brings the community together” and the Ribfest team’s passion for barbecue.

Asked which community along the tour’s route is the most rib-crazy, McInnes described Yellowknife as a “worthy barbecue rib-loving city,” which is why the tour is coming north for the second time after its debut visit last summer.
This year’s Ribfest is in partnership with soccer club YK Galaxy and the Polar Bear Swim Club, McInnes added.
