Air Canada flights between Edmonton and Yellowknife were disrupted after an “aircraft incident upon landing” at Edmonton International Airport on Tuesday evening.
According to airport management, the incident happened at around 7pm. No injuries were reported.
While the size and type of aircraft involved were not immediately confirmed by authorities, footage showed an Air Canada Express Q400 aircraft sitting disabled on the runway with damaged nose gear.
The plane wasn’t removed from the runway until later in the evening, causing a number of flights to be delayed or diverted.
Among the affected aircraft appears to have been an Air Canada CRJ900 coming from Vancouver to Edmonton that was assigned to then operate the evening’s Edmonton-Yellowknife service.
That flight was diverted to Calgary instead of Edmonton. As a result, the Edmonton-Yellowknife flight was cancelled.
Wednesday morning’s Air Canada service from Yellowknife to Edmonton was also cancelled as a consequence.
Normal service at Edmonton International Airport has since resumed and no other Yellowknife flights appear to be affected.
