The Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce is organizing a “trade mission” to Hay River next month in a bid to strengthen collaboration between the communities over coming federal investment.
Yellowknife and Inuvik are each in line to receive defence spending worth $5 billion or more over the next 15 years.
Hay River has already sent politicians and other delegates to the territorial capital in a bid to capture some of that cash influx for South Slave firms.
Now, the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce says it will take a group of businesses to Hay River on Friday, July 10.
“The scale of this opportunity is larger than any one community or region and will require strong partnerships, collaboration, and coordinated capacity across the territory,” the chamber stated in an email circulated to Yellowknife businesses on Monday.
“Yellowknife serves as a major service, logistics, and business hub, while Hay River remains a critical transportation and gateway community through its rail and port connections, with strong roots in manufacturing and building.
“Strengthening collaboration between the two communities is a natural first step in building stronger regional capacity, improving economic readiness, and positioning NWT businesses to better participate in upcoming opportunities.”
The full itinerary has yet to be finalized. Registration for interested businesses will open soon, the chamber said.
Participants are told to expect opportunities to network, regional economic discussion, “opportunity exploration” and site visits.
