Saturday is the opening day for Yellowknife’s Wok Box franchise, which had originally aimed for a summer opening before a series of delays.
Located inside the Center Ice Plaza, the franchise is being started by owners who say Yellowknife lacked Asian quick-service restaurants – chains like Edo Japan and Panda Express, commonly found in southern cities.
Noodle and rice boxes, wings, poutine, soups, desserts and hot school lunches are part of Wok Box’s menu.
The Yellowknife Wok Box had planned to open in June, then pushed that to August over construction delays.
The Air Canada strike subsequently prevented some training from going ahead as planned, so Wok Box ultimately settled on a September 6 opening.
“We promise it’ll be worth the wait,” the franchise said on its Facebook page.
The store says its hours are 10am to 10pm daily.
