Electric vehicle chargers in Fort Providence and Enterprise are now active, forming the final links in what the NWT has called its “charging corridor” from Yellowknife to Alberta.
The corridor has been complete for months for longer-range electric vehicles.
The chargers in Enterprise and Fort Providence, which were brought online recently by Naka Power and included in a GNWT announcement on Tuesday, fill in gaps between Behchokǫ̀, Hay River and Alberta.
The GNWT said drivers with electric vehicles can now, in its view, “travel confidently from Yellowknife, Hay River, or Fort Smith to Alberta on Highways 1, 2, 3, and 5.”

A GNWT map of the corridor shows most chargers on those highways are level three fast chargers. Kakisa and Fort Resolution offer slower level two chargers.
The corridor’s construction was supported by about $4 million in government funding.
Where to find each charger
The GNWT lists addresses for the charging stations as follows:
Yellowknife: 481 Range Lake Rd or Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre
Behchokǫ̀: 400 Kay Tay Whee Tili, near Kộ Gocho Sportsplex
Fort Providence: Big River Service Centre
Enterprise: 526 Robin Rd, Community Hall
Hay River: 4 Capital Drive
Fort Smith: 81 King Street, community centre parking lot
The corridor “shows what we can accomplish when we invest in sustainable infrastructure that supports our climate goals, economic development, and quality of life for northerners,” energy minister Caroline Wawzonek was quoted as saying.
