The NWT government has released a questionnaire that it hopes residents will use to share experiences with the healthcare system over the past year.
There are two versions of the 15-minute questionnaire – an inpatient version, for people admitted to a hospital or acute care facility for an overnight stay or longer, and an outpatient version for people whose interactions were limited to things like day surgeries, primary care visits and rehabilitation.
The Department of Health and Social Services said the goal is to understand the quality of care people are receiving and how effectively the healthcare system is meeting people’s needs.
Feedback will help the department “improve services and monitor progress,” a news release stated, as well as improve cultural safety for Indigenous patients and “support efforts to eliminate anti-Indigenous racism and improve client experience and health outcomes.”
A summary of the responses will be made public, though the feedback gathered will be kept anonymous and confidential.
You can also fill out the questionnaire on behalf of someone you care for, such as a child or Elder.
Paper copies of both questionnaires are available at health centres across the NWT, or people can request a paper copy by mail.
You can also request interpretation support to complete the survey in an Indigenous language or French at each health centre.
The deadline to complete the questionnaire is November 10.
