The NWT’s lone senator, Margaret Dawn Anderson, has joined the Senate Conservative Caucus.
Anderson was previously a member of the Progressive Senate Group, the successor to the Senate’s Liberal caucus.
Senate Conservative Leader Leo Housakos announced her move on X on Wednesday.
“Senator Anderson brings a strong and principled voice from the North, a region whose perspectives and priorities are essential to Canada’s success,” Housakos was quoted as saying.
“Our caucus believes that every part of this great country must have a seat at the table, and Senator Anderson’s decision to join our caucus ensures that the voices of northern Canadians are heard loud and clear.”
Anderson has been approached for comment.
While she has yet to make a statement, her affiliation shown on the Senate of Canada website has changed in accordance with the move.
Anderson was named the NWT’s latest senator in 2018, filling a seat left vacant by the retirement of Nick Sibbeston.
