The Union of Northern Workers says it is preparing to start bargaining with the territorial government over a new collective agreement affecting thousands of GNWT workers.
The existing collective agreement expires on March 31, 2026. That deal, agreed in the fall of 2024 but backdated to April 2023, included a salary increase of 10.5 percent over three years.
Areas of focus for the latest talks were discussed and prioritized at a bargaining conference in August, the UNW said this week in a message to members.
“Topic areas ranged from wage and premium increases to leave improvements, and collective agreement language proposals designed to enhance existing collective agreement clauses,” the union stated in that message.
The UNW said it expects bargaining to begin “in the new year.”
