Yellowknife’s Ragged Ass Swing Band is going family-friendly next weekend by calling itself the “Ragged Butt Swing Band” for a free afternoon show.

The Sunday, November 23 show at Northern United Place, presented by the Longshadow Music Society, runs from 4pm till 6pm and features four short 20-minute sets with intervals.

The band calls the format a “great way to introduce kids to lots of instruments, jazz and swing music, and a huge live band.”

There are now 23 members of the Ragged Ass (or Butt) Swing Band. This is the first time the band has temporarily rebranded in this fashion.

Kids who attend must be supervised, the band stated in a press release. There will be a water station but you should bring your own snacks and ear protection.

A “Ragged Bum-Scoot Zone” will exist for babies alongside a dance area, chairs for floor seating, and the option of balcony seating.

“The band is going to dress colourful, and we encourage you to as well,” the group stated.
