The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission says it is investing around $1 million this year in initiatives “to help reduce work-related injuries and illnesses” across the NWT and Nunavut.

The money, announced this week, comes from the WSCC Occupational Health and Safety Funding program.

The Arctic Energy Alliance will receive $205,000 to run chainsaw safety courses in Inuvik, Behchokǫ̀ and Fort Smith, WSCC stated, while Advanced Medical Solutions will use a similar sum to hold courses that certify more First Aid instructors.

Arctic Response will spend $49,000 from the fund running occupational health and safety training boot camps across the North’s small communities.

The Northern Safety Association, which is receiving multi-year funding worth a total of $1.7 million, will expand access to its programming while redesigning and modernizing more than 30 courses.
