Alberta’s cancellation of January 2026 diploma exams following a recent teachers’ strike means NWT Grade 12 students won’t have them either.
In a Wednesday news release, the territorial government said the NWT’s use of Alberta’s program means its students are “automatically exempt from writing diploma exams in January.”
“Students who wish to write an exam later in the school year will continue to have opportunities to do so,” the territory stated.
“Students who choose not to write at a later date will receive their school-awarded mark as their final course mark.
“Transcripts will note that no diploma exam was written, which will not affect graduation status or eligibility for post-secondary programs.”
