Michael Vandell has defeated challenger Ronald Bonnetrouge to remain the Deh Gáh Got’ı̨ę First Nation’s chief according to provisional results.
The outcome of Monday’s election, posted online by the returning officer, showed incumbent Vandell receiving 203 votes to former MLA Bonnetrouge’s 174.
Seven councillors were also declared elected, though residents queried why one candidate with 146 votes appeared to have been overlooked while another with 143 had the word “elected” next to their name.
Returning officer Lee Thom said that was a mistake which will be corrected on Tuesday.
