NWT-based Northern Quill Publishing says it is releasing a new, expanded edition of a book about a rugged portage leading into the territory’s barrenlands.

In a news release, the publisher said Kahaɂa Tuwé: The Gateway to the Barren Lands is an updated version of a book released in 2010 as Pike’s Portage: Stories of a Distinguished Place.

The book “explores the deep cultural, historical, and geographic significance of Kahaɂa Tuwé, known to many as Pike’s Portage,” Northern Quill stated.

“It has served as a vital cultural crossroads, a gateway to the Barren Lands, and a place of enduring meaning for Indigenous peoples, travellers and northern communities.

“This updated edition builds on the original work with expanded context, refined storytelling, and renewed attention to the voices, landscapes, and histories that shape this remarkable place.”
