The NWT government plans to demolish two cabins next to Powder Point, a gateway to Hidden Lake Territorial Park, saying they have been abandoned.

Powder Point is best known as the parking lot at the east end of Prelude Lake from which canoe campers depart toward Hidden Lake, a popular summer destination.

One of the cabins is by the shoreline to the right of the parking lot as you look out across Prelude Lake. The other, farther to the right, is set into the woodland.

How long they’ve been there was not clear, nor who built them and when they were abandoned.

A hazardous assessment report compiled by environmental firm KBL for the project list the cabins’ construction date as “unknown.” (Issues such as lead and asbestos were documented in the report.)
