Singer-songwriter Beatrice Deer has released a new single, titled Arranged, alongside a visualizer for the track,

The indie rock song, which features vocals from Johnny Saunders, draws from Inuit history and stories passed down from Elders about arranged marriages.

“There are many, many stories from our Elders who were betrothed from birth and had to honour the agreement made by their parents when they came of age in spite of their deep dismay. Stories of young men and women who’ve never seen each other were made to marry each other,” Deer stated in a news release.

“In many of these rough beginnings are stories of learning to respect each other and their vows, and eventually love each other deeply until the very end.”

The Inuk-Mohawk singer and actress from Nunavik said those stories are reflected in Arranged, which tells “a unique story about difficult arranged marriages turning into happy endings.”

“I’m so very happy with how the song turned out,” she stated.

“I hope listeners who are going through a rough patch in their relationship will be inspired to work through their differences and disagreements and work things out, unless it’s abusive. If it is, leave and go find the right one to spend forever with.”

Arranged is described as “a stirring showcase” of Deer’s signature sound, “rooted in vivid and emotionally rich storytelling.”

It is available on streaming platforms and is playlisted by Cabin Radio.
