RCMP in Yellowknife say two security guards have been arrested over an incident in which they allegedly pushed an Elder down a flight of stairs.
The CBC reported on Thursday morning that a 63-year-old alleged two security guards from Risk Control Canada threw him head-first down stairs at the city’s Norseman Manor apartments.
By Thursday afternoon, Yellowknife RCMP had issued a statement appearing to describe the same incident and stating that two security guards had been taken into custody a day earlier.
They will face charges of assault causing bodily harm, police said.
RCMP said they were called just after 2am on January 18.
“The man sustained injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance,” police stated.
“An investigation into the matter indicated that the actions of the security guards constituted an assault. As a result, both security guards involved in the incident were arrested.”
Risk Control Canada, in a statement to Cabin Radio, said it had fired both employees.
“Upon becoming aware of the matter, Risk Control promptly initiated an internal review and cooperated with involved authorities. Based on the findings of that review, the involved individuals’ conduct was determined to be inconsistent with company policies and procedures, training and professional standards,” the company stated.
“As a result, on January 21, 2026, Risk Control Canada has terminated the employment of the individuals involved.”
RCMP said the two accused, who were not publicly identified, have since been released and are due in Territorial Court on March 3.
