The NWT government is planning to continue its territory-wide lead tests in schools at four locations this coming week.

The GNWT is testing more than 40 schools’ water after some Yellowknife schools were found last year to have lead above Health Canada guideline limits in water coming from some fixtures.

According to the territorial government’s website, two schools in Fort Smith, one in Yellowknife and one in Behchokǫ̀ will be tested in the week ahead.

So far this calendar year, no schools have had test results released. Dozens remain to be tested.

In the meantime, the GNWT has offered to cover the cost of schools moving to alternative sources of water while they await tests.

Yellowknife’s École St Joseph School will also be tested on Thursday, January 29.

Elizabeth Mackenzie Elementary School in Behchokǫ̀ will be tested on Saturday, January 31.
