The Longshadow Music Society is hosting a series of public workshops led by musicians performing a jazz show in Yellowknife this week.

An ensemble of six jazz musicians are set to perform Brett Hansen’s Confluence at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre, or NACC, on Saturday at 7:30pm.

Hansen is a guitarist, composer and producer based in Edmonton. His debut album, Confluence, is a jazz album with folk and rock influences.

NACC and the Longshadow Music Society said the live show for Confluence “brings together folk-inspired sensitivity, muscular rock phrases and Latin rhythms to conjure a sound both atmospheric and powerful.”

Tickets for the show are available on NACC’s website.

Performing alongside Hansen will be Mallory Chipman on vocals, Luis Tovar on percussion, Murray Wood on bass, Joel Jeschke on drums and Chris Pruden on keyboard.

Ahead of the show, the musicians will lead a series of workshops featuring demonstrations, participation, discussion and learning.

The workshops are open to musicians of all genres and skill levels aged 13 and older. Donations are accepted for attendance.

The following four workshops all take place from 7:30-9pm on Thursday, February 26:
