RCMP say they have arrested five people as part of an investigation into an alleged armed home invasion in Fort Providence, which involved the use of a tactical armoured vehicle during the search of a home in the community.
According to a press release, RCMP received a report on February 25 at 11:19am alleging that the previous day, four masked people, including one person with a rifle, had entered a home in the community looking for another person who was not there.
Police said they launched an investigation and identified several suspects.
RCMP said the alleged home invasion is believed to be related to the local illicit drug trade and the people suspected of being involved are known to each other.
As part of their investigation, on February 25, police said they arrested Westlin Sabourin, 32, of Fort Providence and charged him with breaking and entering and failure to comply with a release order condition.
Then, on March 4, police arrested Adrian Farcy, 34, and charged him with breaking and entering.
Two days later, officers searched a home in Fort Providence. The search involved the use of a $580,000 tactical armoured vehicle and police dog services. RCMP said they seized a long gun, an imitation firearm and a small quantity of ammunition from the home.
Police subsequently arrested a 26-year-old man from Fort Providence who officers did not name as they said his charges have not yet been formally sworn in court.
Officers also arrested an unnamed 54-year-old women. Police said she is not believed to be involved in the home invasion but will face a charge related to the unsafe storage of firearms.
Finally, RCMP said they located and arrested Jeff Canadien, 28, on March 7 and charged him with breaking and entering, possession of a prohibited weapon while knowing its possession is unauthorized, and possession of a weapon contrary to a weapons prohibition order.
