RCMP say they have finished a “planned operation” on the corner of Yellowknife’s 50A Avenue and 57 Street that resulted in multiple arrests.

In a news release just before 2pm, police told residents to avoid the area.

At the scene, a Cabin Radio reporter could see multiple police vehicles with four people in handcuffs sitting on the ground.

Officers in tactical gear remained at the scene as of 2:40pm. At least three windows of the home looked to have been broken.

An RCMP tactical armoured vehicle – a relatively new acquisition for police in the territory – was also present.

The exact nature of the operation was not immediately apparent.

By 3:05pm, RCMP said the operation had “concluded safely” with an unspecified number of people taken into custody.

“A police presence will remain on scene as additional investigation is carried out,” RCMP stated.

“An update will be provided on the investigation when more information is available.”
