The Sandra Schmirler Foundation has donated $64,000 to help the obstetrics unit at Yellowknife’s hospital buy two infant defibrillators.
In a news release, Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation executive director Patty Olexin-Lang said the donation would “help ensure infants can receive the critical support they require.”
The Sandra Schmirler Foundation raises funds to help babies born too soon, too small or too sick. This is the fourth time it has provided funding to help Stanton, the hospital foundation said.
The defibrillators will replace ageing equipment at Stanton.
“While many births at Stanton are low risk, our teams must always be prepared to respond when complications arise,” hospital chief operating officer Lorie-Anne Danielson was quoted as saying.
