A podcast that rewatches iconic 1990s CBC TV show North of 60 has been renewed for a second season and will receive $20,000 in funding from the Indigenous Screen Office and YouTube.

Lynx River Revisited, hosted by Melaw Nakehk’o and Brie O’Keefe, made its debut with a 16-episode opening season published between December and April.

The show covered the first season of North of 60, set in Lynx River – a fictional community modelled on a Dehcho village like Fort Simpson, where Nakehk’o and O’Keefe grew up.

The podcast will also be showcased at the National imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival in Toronto, which will be held from June 2-8.

“We’re looking forward to connecting with other Indigenous podcasts and using the platform of imagineNATIVE to grow our audience,” Nakehk’o was quoted as saying in a news release.

Lynx River Revisited’s first season was produced at Cabin Radio’s Yellowknife studios. The second season will expand to YouTube through the new funding arrangement, its hosts said, and they will take part in workshops led by YouTube Canada.

“It’s so exciting now to not only know we have funding to move forward, but also to get support and training from Youtube itself to ensure success as we expand how we produce the show,” O’Keefe was quoted as saying.

The podcast has plenty of material left to work with: North of 60 ran to 90 episodes between 1992 and 1997, plus five made-for-TV movies. Here’s a link to every North of 60 broadcast.
