The territorial government says it has introduced a new admissions process for supported living services.
Supported living refers to services that help adults with disabilities live independently and safely, either at home or in dedicated accommodation.
From Wednesday last week, the new process requires that applications across the territory go through a committee. Previously, they went through various processes depending on the region or service provider.
The supports themselves and eligibility criteria aren’t changing, the GNWT said in a news release, and people don’t need to reapply for services they already receive.
In a statement, health minister Lesa Semmler said the use of a single committee for all admissions would make access to services “clearer and more consistent.”
