RCMP say officers received a call around 5:19am on Sunday to attend a residential house fire in the community along with the local fire department.

At the time of the fire, police said, the house was empty and no injuries were reported.

RCMP said the fire is not considered suspicious in nature and the Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating.

Earlier this year, several homes were lost due to a fire that consumed most of a six-plex in Edzo.

According to a 2024 assessment, which documented housing needs across the territory, 31 percent of households in Behchokǫ̀ were in core housing need. That means their accommodation did not meet one or more of adequacy, suitability or affordability requirements.

As of December 2025, 159 households were on the waitlist for public housing in the community.
