Behchokǫ̀ RCMP seize 3kg of suspected cocaine during traffic stop

An RCMP-supplied image of suspected cocaine officers said they seized during a traffic stop on May 24, 2026.

RCMP in Behchokǫ̀ say they have arrested and charged a 32-year-old woman from Alberta after seizing around 3kg of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop.

In a Monday press release, police said they stopped a vehicle registered in Alberta shortly before noon on Sunday near North Arm Territorial Park on Highway 3.

During the traffic stop, RCMP said officers “formed grounds to believe” that the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was “engaged in drug trafficking activity” and arrested her.

Police said they subsequently searched the vehicle and located the suspected cocaine as well as $1,500 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

“The RCMP in the Northwest Territories is committed in preventing illegal drugs from entering our communities and this significant seizure is yet another great example of the work our officers are doing to support our communities,” Sergeant James Lai stated in the release.
