Air North is offering reduced rates, complimentary baggage and other benefits for travel booked by a registered NWT sport organization until the end of December 2027.

The NWT Sport Fare Program is a partnership between Sport North Federation, Indigenous Sports Circle NWT and Air North.

“We’re proud to partner with NWT sport organizations and help make it easier for athletes, coaches, and support staff to access the competitions, training opportunities, and experiences that help them grow and represent their communities with pride,” Benjamin Ryan, Air North’s chief commercial officer, was quoted saying in a July 30 news release.

According to the Indigenous Sports Circle NWT’s website, the NWT Sport Fare Program can be applied to travel for competitions, training camps, leadership development opportunities, and other approved sport events.

To access the fare program, NWT sport organizations first need to submit a travel form and get approval from either Sport North Federation or the Indigenous Sports Circle NWT for the travel.

Once approved, the organization can book the travel or individual travellers can make their own reservations.

“Year after year, our members tell us the cost of travel is one of the greatest barriers to participation. We are proud to partner on a solution that helps reduce those costs and makes sport more accessible for athletes, coaches, officials, and communities,” said Aaron Wells, executive director of Indigenous Sports Circle NWT, in the news release.

“We hope this partnership serves as a catalyst for future collaborations that expand travel support and better meet the needs of communities across the NWT.”

A ticket purchased under the NWT Sport Fare Program will get complimentary seat selection, travel date changes and name changes for passengers, cancellations and four checked bags.

An Air North ticket to Vancouver from Yellowknife costs between $200 and $525 excluding taxes and without the discount and added benefits, according to the fare program’s NWT 2026–2027 base fares and booking guide. With the reduced rate, that flight would cost $174.75 excluding taxes, the guide states.

The base rates, outlined in the booking guide, apply to existing routes offered by Air North and are available until December 31, 2027.
