Yellowknife’s annual celebration of the August long weekend included arts, music and bikes in the city’s Old Town.
“We love to be part of the community of Yellowknife. It’s such a beautiful, vibrant community,” said Rosalie Tarleton who participated in the bike parade, its own event within the Ramble and Ride festival that’s become a staple for the city.
Christine Wenman and her children participated in their sixth bike parade this year and described it and Ramble and Ride as “a great community event.”
“We love it. [The bike parade] brings the community together and celebrates cycling,” said Wenman.
Young cyclist Lachlan decorated his bike with colourful tape, ribbon, strings and plastic plates.

“It was very fun. Very, very fun,” he said of his first bike parade.
This was Ramble and Ride’s 20th anniversary, while another group also celebrated a milestone during the festival. For their 8oth anniversary, the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts offered pottery demonstrations.
“We decided to go old school and go back to our roots,” said Rosanna Strong, a member of the guild.
She said the guild used to hold many public demonstrations and workshops when it first started.
“I can’t believe we’re one of the oldest operating arts guilds in Canada.”
