An NWT RCMP spokesperson says a person driving a pickup truck hit a child while they were riding a bicycle across the street on a red light near Yellowknife’s uptown Reddi Mart on Monday afternoon.
The child was receiving medical care when the RCMP arrived on scene. Police said the child was transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital and is expected to recover.
The accident took place at the intersection of Byrne Road and Old Airport Road, the RCMP spokesperson said.
“No evidence of criminality was found” following an investigation of the scene, the spokesperson said.
“Yellowknife RCMP would like to remind the public of the importance of educating children around traffic safety, proper helmet use and ensuring children are only riding their bicycles in areas where it is safe to do so.”
