Inuvik RCMP say the search for Jovan Sandhu has shifted its focus to a recovery operation.
On Monday, police had issued a public appeal for help locating Sandhu, who had been reported missing. RCMP said at the time he had last been seen in Inuvik and that he was possibly heading to Fort McPherson by boat.
In an update on Wednesday, RCMP said the the 27-year-old was last seen at the ferry crossing in Tsiigehtchic on August 7.
Search and recovery efforts have been extended to include the Mackenzie River in the areas of Fort McPherson and Tsiigehtchic, the RCMP said.
“The RCMP recognizes that these are difficult times for Mr Sandhu’s family and the impacted communities, and we are doing everything in our power to resolve this case,” police stated.

Wednesday’s update said specialized units, including an underwater recovery team, have been mobilized in the search. Police said assistance is also being provided by Fort McPherson RCMP, local search and rescue volunteers and community members.
Police described Sandhu as having a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes.
