The NWT government and Sport North Federation are now accepting applications for a grant that provides financial support to athletes competing at the highest levels of sport.
The High Performance Athlete Grant program aims to offset the costs associated with training, travel, coaching, equipment and competition outside the territory.
To be eligible for program funding, applicants must be a member in good standing of a recognized national or territorial sport organization and be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and an NWT resident.
Applicants must also not be employed more than 20 hours per week, not be receiving payment from any professional sport league or team and not reside outside the territory during the competitive season of their sport.
Athletes may receive up to $5,000, $10,000 or $20,000 through the grant program under different assistance tiers. Funding allocations are based on an athlete’s achievements and recognition at the national and international levels.
Applications and required documentation for the 2026-2027 grant program must by submitted by October 16.
