The Gwich’in Tribal Council’s board of directors says it is postponing a special assembly and annual general assembly.
In a Thursday news release, the tribal council said the decision was made to allow the board, Gwich’in Settlement Corporation and Gwich’in Development Corporation to complete and finalize financial documents.
The board said the decision was “carefully considered in light of the important business conducted at the annual general assembly.” It described taking additional time to finalize financial statements as “an important and responsible step in ensuring the financial information presented is complete, accurate and clear.”
“Gwich’in Tribal Council is committed to transparency and accountability with our council members and participants,” Gwich’in Grand Chief Frederick Blake Jr stated.
The special assembly had been set to take place from August 17 to 18 and the annual general assembly from August 19 to 21 in Fort McPherson.

The Gwich’in Tribal Council said it would share new dates for the assemblies “as soon as possible.”
