Years of work are paying off for Yellowknife Motors, its boss says, after the dealership received a General Motors President’s Cup Award for its 2025 performance.

Aaron Wall, the general manager of Yellowknife Motors, said it was one of 50 selected from approximately 500 General Motors dealerships across the country.

Dealerships are judged on customer satisfaction in their sales and service departments, the number of new-vehicle sales compared to previous years, and their performance within the local market.

“We’ve received recognition for a lot of hard effort and a lot of hard work that we put into growing this business,” Wall said.

“We feel we’ve done a tremendous job gaining market share in our territory.”

Wall said the award has been years in the making. The business, in operation for more than 70 years, has been under its current ownership since 2011.

The dealership has pursued a President’s Cup Award for the past 15 years but only became eligible after moving into its new facility in 2020.

The award now sits on Wall’s desk.

He described Yellowknife Motors as Canada’s northernmost General Motors dealership and the city’s only locally owned and operated automotive dealership, asserting that a local connection is a vital part of the team’s success.

“We’re proud that we represent the General Motors brand in the North,” he said.

Wall also thanked people across the NWT for supporting the business over the years.

After celebrating the dealership’s win, the team’s focus has shifted to 2026 with a goal of wining the President’s Cup Award again.

However, that won’t be an easy task. The award measures growth year on year, meaning Yellowknife Motors will have to meaningfully improve on its 2025 performance.

“We’ve set the benchmark for Yellowknife Motors for one of the best years we’ve had, so we know where we need to land this year in order to do a great job,” Wall said.
