A new health clinic in downtown Yellowknife is bringing together practitioners from several disciplines under one roof, with a focus on accessible, relationship-based care.

Rekindle Health, co-founded by naturopathic doctors Kyla Wright and Shahin Epharim Moslehi, held its grand opening and community open house on September 5.

The clinic offers naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, registered massage therapy, manual osteopathy, counselling, lactation support, advanced foot care and reflexology. It also provides IV therapy, injections, bloodwork and other lab work.

Wright said the goal is to create a space where practitioners can work together rather than operate as separate services.

“We really believe that everyone needs a circle of care, and we are just one part of that,” Wright told Cabin Radio.

Moslehi said the clinic was intentionally designed to bring different practitioners together so they can collaborate around a patient’s needs.

“We don’t just want us to exist in a shared space; we want us to actually work together for the needs of the patient,” he told Cabin Radio.

The clinic is intended to complement, rather than replace, the existing health system. Its practitioners can provide additional options for prevention and health promotion, while helping patients connect with other health services when needed.

Rekindle also hopes to make integrative care more accessible outside Yellowknife. In August, its practitioners travelled to Fort Smith to provide naturopathic medicine and acupuncture in partnership with Red Fox Pharmacy.

Wright said the team is working toward returning to Fort Smith and eventually developing relationships with other NWT communities.

“We don’t just want to travel to communities once,” she said. “We want to make sure that we build the capacity to deliver sustainable and continuous care.”

Alongside its clinical rooms and apothecary, the clinic also has a community workshop space intended for health and wellness education, gatherings, and meetings. The space will be available to community groups.

Rekindle Health is located at 5122 48 Street in Yellowknife.
