The GNWT is holding three community engagement sessions in Tsiigehtchic, Fort McPherson and Inuvik this week to get feedback on the Mackenzie Valley Highway.
The sessions will be held at the Chief Paul Niditchie Gymnasium in Tsiigehtchic on October 6, at the Fort McPherson council chamber on October 7, and at Ingamo Friendship Centre in Inuvik on October 8. Each session will be from 5-8pm.
Documents submitted to the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board in September show the GNWT’s latest proposed corridor for the Mackenzie Valley Highway.
The highway from Wrigley to Fort Good Hope would roughly follow the existing Mackenzie Valley winter road. Four options are still being discussed for the route once the road enters the Gwich’in Settlement Area.
Each of the those would have the road connect to the Dempster Highway between Inuvik and Tsiigehtchic.
In a news release, the GNWT said the upcoming community engagement is meant to seek feedback on “the project description, socio-economic effects and mitigation measures for the [Mackenzie Valley Highway] to enhance positive impacts and reduce negative impacts.”
