Police say they have arrested two men after finding cash and suspected cocaine during an early morning downtown patrol in Yellowknife on Tuesday.
In a Wednesday news release, RCMP said officers were conducting a “proactive patrol” just before 2am when they stopped two individuals walking near 52 Avenue and 52 Street. Why the men were initially stopped was not clear.
Police said after one man provided a false name the men were arrested and searched, and officers ultimately found 225 grams of suspected cocaine and $3,455.
Darien Kasook and Keinan Fidow, both from Edmonton, were charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, RCMP said.
Police also charged Kasook with one count of resistance or wilful obstruction of a peace officer.
The two have been released and will appear in court on November 3, police said.
