Inuvik emergency room to use ‘virtual doctors’ on Thursday night

The Inuvik hospital’s emergency department will “transition to virtual physician services” from 7:30pm on Thursday to 7:30am on Friday this week, the territorial health authority says.

A Facebook post to the Inuvik Bulletin Board group did not state why the emergency department needs to use virtual services.

Cabin Radio has asked the health authority for more information on the hospital’s transition to virtual care for the night.

The health authority stated residents should still go to the emergency department if there is an emergency, but they “may be treated through virtual services.”

People with non-urgent matters can call 8-1-1, which connects callers to registered nurses for health advice.
