The federal government has announced $1.4 million for a snowblower at Norman Wells’ airport and grader at Fort Simpson’s airport.

Norman Wells will get $810,000 while Fort Simpson will get $595,000 from the Airports Capital Assistance Program.

A federal news release stated the equipment will be used for snow and ice maintenance on runways, taxiways and aprons.

“The funding will enhance airport safety and reliability, helping ensure these airports can continue providing safe and efficient air transportation services for passengers, air operators and the communities they serve,” the news release said.

The federal government said it has previously provided $8.8 million to Norman Wells for airside paving, runway lighting and a runway sweeper, and $3.3 million to Fort Simpson for airfield electrical upgrades and a plow truck.
