Alongside Monday’s municipal election, Yellowknife residents voted for new trustees for Yellowknife Education District No 1 (YK1) and Yellowknife Catholic Schools (YCS).
YK1’s seven elected trustees are Billie-Jean Smith, Brianna Spicer, Allan Shortt, Jillian Bancroft, Stacy Ridgely, Barbara Bell and Spencer Tracy, according to unofficial results provided by the district.
YCS’s provisional results name Tina Schauerte, Matthew Yap, Susan Waddell, Sara Flaherty, Melanie Williams, Megan Richards and Alex Mulooki as its seven trustees.
Both boards are responsible for setting policies, approving budgets and providing long-term direction for their respective school districts.
Trustees also help advocate for students and families and guide decisions about educational priorities across Yellowknife’s schools.
